The CSS on this site is about 99.5% identical to the CSS on the sites that don’t exhibit the “case of the white band”, and many of the plugins are common between the sites as well. Nevertheless when I’ve got some more time I’ll try to further track the issue down. For now, I’m happy with the workaround and grateful for your help.
