I’ve still been running some of my sites on PHP 5.6, so today I thought I’d bring them all up to 7.4, the latest version my host offers. In the process I found the odd incompatible plugin which meant some sites went down, but the new WordPress feature which identifies the errant plugin made it very easy to resolve and recover.

However, I have struck a problem with one site which I can’t resolve. When I change to PHP 7.4 the front end goes down (critical error), although I can still get in the back end. For some reason, the WordPress feature mentioned above doesn’t seem to get triggered by this error, so I had to go through the tried-and-true but laborious one-by-one deactivation/reactivation routine.

It turns out that the problem is with the Xtreme Plus plugin – when I deactivate it, the front end is again accessible. I thought that perhaps there is an interaction between Xtreme Plus and one of my other plugins, but I use the same plugins happily with Xtreme Plus on my other sites now running on the same host with PHP 7.4. So I’m stumped. I’ve gone back to PHP 5.6 for now so the site is accessible.

Any ideas for what I can try next? I’ve included the theme system info below.

I recently updated to PHP 7.4.12 and have not had any issues, so @weaver will have to comment

But the system info you posted mentions PHP 5.6.40 so is that before update then?

I wrote a reply to this but it seems to be lost.

If there is something crashing, then there should be a message in the error log when you have php 7.4 loaded, If you can find that, that would likely help.

But do you get the crash if you have ONLY Weaver Xtreme Plus activated?

Yes, I’ve now deactivated every plugin except for Xtreme Plus, and the site still crashes when I change to PHP 7.4.

I can still get in the backend even though the front end is down.

I can’t post a copy of the Weaver System Info because it doesn’t show up unless I have the Theme Support plugin activated.

Where do I look for the error log? On the server? Or somewhere in WordPress?  I’ve left the crashed site up so you can look at it.

Many thanks for your help 🙂
