WordPress Version 6.7 and Weaver Xtreme 6.7

WordPress released version 6.7 a couple of days ago, and it seems this is not one of their better releases.

For the first time in a very long time (years), a new version of WordPress has broken Weaver Xtreme. Fortunately, the problems are only on the Admin side. The visitor side seems to be okay.

Weaver Xtreme 6.7 has been released with fixes or workarounds for the issues.

So far, we’ve discovered two issues:

1. There was a change in the Block Editor on how the Page/Post title was displayed that required only a tiny change to the CSS added by Weaver Xtreme for the Block Editor. (FYI: Weaver Xtreme tries very hard to have the Editor views, both Classic and Block, to match the final output very closely. I’ve yet to find any other classic theme that does this…) So this was a pretty minor change.
2. In its ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility in WordPress, there was a fairly major change to how the “buttons” on the Customizer are laid out. The previous HTML used for the controls in the Customizer menu was changed to wrap the labels on the controls / sections with a <button> tag. This broke parts of Weaver’s Customizer control layout. The worst break was on the WHAT layout. That layout has included icons on the left, and they don’t work now and have been removed. Now all the Customizer Controls work with Weaver Xtreme 6.7, but not entirely as before. Previously, clicking anywhere in a menu bar/buton, including over the > arrow on the right would open the control. In Weaver Xtreme 6.7, clicking on the > does not do anything. Clicking anywhere to the left of the > works as before. We hope to find a fix for that, but in order to get a working version out quickly, the problem with the > remains as it has only minimal effect on the usability of the Customizer.

There apparently have been reports of plugins having issues with WP 6.7. Don’t have specifics, but beware. This seems to be a fairly broken release of WP compared most others in the past.

Thank you very much for this info and the new Weaver Xtreme release! You rock! I think I’ll wait at least a week before upgrading to WP 6.7.
