I’m building all my sites in Xtreme with the Pro plugin now and I’m keen to get the stuff I do looking a little more modern. There seems to be a trend to display desktop sites fairly wide at the moment. Does anyone know what the maximum recommended width is these days please?Many thanks,AndyThe ability is in this theme to make it look good at whatever size you view on, most people view their desktop/laptops on larger screens these days so I’ve also noticed a trend in desktop sites getting larger, its a bit of a juggling act really, i.e. if you have a larger size header slider, then you will need larger size images to make it look really good, but larger size images equal slower loading times, i myself have been experimenting with my site http://www.robfostermusic.co.uk at a width of 2000px , but it still looks good at 1024px or 960px, but it takes a while to load, i would be interested in other peoples opinions on this as well…
RobI kind of think designing the main content for about 1280 or 1600 is a good target. One can carefully include some full width (maybe 1920px, which is what full width HD TV is, and a good high end design goal) bg images that you try to keep to 100K to 200K.
It does seem that the designs lately do tend to pretty much full width of the monitor (and that’s where the 1920px HD is a good max-width guide), but carefully selecting the bg images can make it look good without too much bandwidth.
And FYI, just to avoid confusion in the future 🙂
You posted in Weaver II pro discussion group for Xtreme question, as well as called it Xtreme with the Pro plugin, when it is Xtreme with “Plus” plugin.
I’ve been doing 1200px wide for the total width, with main content and photos generally 900px wide. That way if someone ‘borrows’ the pics, they aren’t good for much. Also keeps the photo file sizes reasonable.
