It just crossed my mind. Is there any interest for help translated files ? The theme and also Plus Plugin.

I am a native Romanian language speaker. Not a literate, but I have my way with words, and pay attention to details. I already translated 1000 scientific A4 pages and subtitled a few documentaries.

I offer my skills if needed.

The visitor side should already be translated (ro_RO.mo) and load automatically if the home site is installed with ro_RO.

The question is then the Admin side, which would be pretty huge undertaking. I’ve not yet produced a “master” .pot file with all the translation source strings for the full theme – just the visitor side. Partly because the admin strings are till pretty fluid – lots of tweaks still as we refine the messages based on user input, and add new options.

But if you think a ro_RO admin side translation would be something you’d like to do, then great! If you’ve not done this before, I can point you to the translation information pages (or you can search for them). The main tool I think most translators use is called Poedit, and I think there is both Windows and a Mac free version.

If you want to start that, let me know and I can generate an “official” .pot file used as the master translation source for Poedit.

First of all I have in mind the help .html files. But I edited a few times the .pot files, I could do that, even if it’s not my cup of tea.

The problem with translating options, is that sometimes it even sounds ridiculous in other language and some non-english speakers could miss the real meaning of it. Maybe it could be an idea adding the translation in brackets aside the english words. Don’t know if this is ok with wordpress guidelines. I will read more about it.

Another issue is all these could last even a week working time. So… are there any perks for it, a free licence maybe ?

If you did it in a week or less, I’d be amazed!

But sure – an mult-URL X-Plus license with an extended expiration date would be the least I could offer in return.

Perhaps doing a translation with the original English for complicated description might work, but mostly they should be in the target language, I think.

Then… you can count on me, and creat the .pot file when you’ll have time to spare.

Or should I just start with the .html help files ? These could be also packed with the theme, or the plugin. Or just posted on the presentation sites in a category ?

Will take be a few days to find time to generate a .pot file. Not entirely simple as I’d like to combine the X-Plus and Xtreme files, and I don’t the the best, most maintainable way to do that. Will take some experimentation, I think.

I noticed a typo in ro_RO.po file (it sounds ridiculous in Romanian):
