Weaver Xtreme Plus 7.0.3

There is a new version of Weaver Xtreme Plus just released: 7.0.3.

Unfortunately, I really messed up the release of Weaver Xtreme Plus 7.0.2. My sincere apologies to what I hope was only a few people.

The problem is that the 7.0.2 version won’t update itself, and in fact may show error messages.

This is fixed in Version 7.0.3. If you did not update to 7.0.2, then the 7.0.3 version should update. But, just in case, you can download Weaver Xtreme Plus 7.0.3 which should work now to update itself.

You should be able to use the Download Plugin link from your WP Admin page, and it will overwrite your old version. It will not change your license – no need to reupdate the license.

What is Going on with WP?

So, this is all fallout due to the release of WP 7.0.They are making a major effort to get Themes and Plugins compatible with WP 7. One of the most significant changes in WP 7.0 to theme and plugin creators is they are aggressively advancing which version of PHP is required to even run WP itself. This means the plugins that relied on PHP 7.2 or earlier are now broken, and will not even run. You may have noticed that this forum used to show an indicator that showed when you had read a post. That plugin does not work any more – its version of from over 10 years ago.

 

There will soon be a new version of Weaver Xtreme itself, as well as the Weaver Xtreme Theme support plugin. All of this has been lurking with the WP 7.0 release. It really is a pretty major release of WP – I don’t remember any other that has required themes and plugins to do significant updating.

First I tried to update Weaver Xtreme Plus plugin version 6.2 to version 7.0.3 from the Plugins tab in WordPress Dashboard…
It appeared as it was updating, but then it displayed:

"Update failed: Download failed. Unauthorized"

Then I tried to update via the Updates tab but received similar results:

"An error occurred while updating Weaver Xtreme Plus. Download failed. Unauthorized"

So, should I just download the weaver-xtreme-plus-7-0-3.zip file and then install it by overwriting the existing 6.2 version?

Or do I need to first deactivate and delete the existing version 6.2?

Downloading the 7-0-3 zip file and just overwriting the old version should work.
