Weaver show sliders not working

When I install and activate weaver show sliders I get an error message that says

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

First, I get now email.

Second, when I go to my hosting cpanel (bluehost) and change file name for plugin to have _old on end, the backend comes back.

third, when I deactivate all plugins, reinstall and activate the plugin, it still happens.

I have not tried switching theme from weaver xtreme.

any ideas?

Can you please let us have the site URL so we can have a look?

You may use the  Private Reply  if necessary.

Finally, have you run the Site Health plugin to see if the Troubleshooting module give any suggestions or clues to the issue?

also copy paste here the content of the sysinfo box in the admin help page so we can get your configuration.

You need to make sure you have the latest version of the theme, and the Xtreme theme support plugin.

Don’t know if you are aware, but at this URL : https://wordpress.org/plugins/show-sliders/
It says of the Weaver Show Sliders plugin : “This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.”

I have not in fact upated or tested either Show Sliders or Show Posts for a long time. It is possible they do not work with latest PHP.

I will see if they are easy to fix, but may have to drop support for them.

So Sorry! Right after starting this thread I suddenly had to do some traveling for the whole day yesterday.

Here is the website: firstcongregationalnf.org

It is a new site and will be super basic.

I have not used any kind of image slider for some time, and I had always used Show Sliders in the dim and distant past and thought, “Well, keep it in the Weaver ecosystem.”

If it is not specific to my site, and is an easy fix, Weaver, that’s fine. If not, I’ll be good.

According to bluehost cpanel the php is 8.3

Show Sliders works on my test site with PHP and SQL versions 8.x.x

Weaver Show Sliders is really pretty old. In its prime, it was state of the art. I think it still has some pretty adavanced features for customizing a slide show, but it is for sure not the easiest to use. With great power comes great complexity, I think.

So, there are a whole bunch of other decent free slider plugins. Most have all the basic needs met in their free versions, but almost all of them sell pro versions – that’s how developers can actually create new plugins.

I’ve recently built a new website using the free version of https://wordpress.org/plugins/photo-gallery/

Has been easy to use, and works well. I’d recommend it.

Thanks Weaver. I’ll use something else and consider this issue closed.

Maybe Show Sliders has run its course. But I always wondered why it could not be a native part of the one theme to rule them all. Actually, I’ve wondered why a slider is not just native to WP. Or maybe it is in Blocks and I don’t know.

Here is the sysinfo if you still need it. I forgot to give it earlier.

thanks for the help. Now off to figure out where the setting is in the free weaver extreme to have a different header on just the front page. So many settings. NOT complaining! That’s what I love about this theme. The only one I’ve ever used!!
