I guess I will stick with manual download from the Cpanel Backup utility, One for the whole account, and one for each category (home dir, databases, email).

The site is almost dormant at this point so not need for frequent backups 🙂

Understood and agreed.

When our Host said our whole drive was backed up as one, I decided to protect myself immediately and reinstate off-sever backups.

The backups run automatically and with 12 old copies to cover 24 hours, then if something odd happens when I’m away, I have it covered and with no effort or thought .

The only thing I tend to lose when restoring backups are some comments since the last backup time.  Typically these now run at 50-100/day and people don’t like to see comments missing…. so before I do a backup I’ll check and make a .txt. copy of the comments for later use.

Because there is so much that can accidentally go wrong with a WP website these days, I don’t tinker with ours any more, and just deal with the changes and updates initiated by others, which is pretty much a full time job, when one includes the 10 new daily posts.

That is a good question – I don’t know an answer. Solid backup seems to rely on access to you account on the host where you should be able to rename/delete the offending pluin at the least, and at best, use the host’s backup system.

Weaver, as I was rereading your comment there for the umpteenth time, it suddenly came to my memory that there is a Recovery Mode in WP since V5.2

I think WP works so well now, that we’ve all forgotten that facility.

In truth, it has been a very long time since I last saw that dreaded Recovery Mode notice, but it worked, and probably still does….  🙂
