Feature request (or any workaround): How to tell the vimeo shortcode that the aspect ratio of your video is 9:16?
Currently, for HD videos (16:9), I use this shortcode:
[vimeo https://vimeo.com/687360383?h=6a2b86d140%5D
For standard definition videos (4:3), I use this shortcode:
[vimeo sd=1 https://vimeo.com/687360383?h=6a2b86d140%5D
For vertical videos (9:16), there is no shortcode option, so I use sd=1, which gives unsatisfactory results because I restrict the height of all my videos to fit within the window vertical height with this CSS:
.wp-block-group.video-holder div.wvrx-video, .wp-block-group.video-holder .wvrx-video div.fluid-width-video-wrapper iframe {max-height:100vh}
The unsatisfactory result when displaying the 9:16 video in the 4:3 holder is the unused/unusable empty space on each side of the video, especially noticeable on phone screen (portrait orientation) or with several columns of videos.
How can I tell the vimeo shortcode that the aspect ratio is 9:16? Even a workaround/hack would be helpful.

Nothing that I can think of would work with the short code.
The fact is that the video short codes haven’t been updated in quite some time, and a vertical formt was not even available at the time.
And I personally hate vertical videos, so it really hasn’t been on my radar.
I will try to add that update to both youtube and vimeo soon. Shouldn’t really be too difficult. And I would guess that a 9:16 vertical format is about the only one used? I will see what YT and vimeo support.

ParticipantThank you, much appreciated, that will be very helpful. I will Await the update.
I make a fair number of videos for TikTok, So I’ve had to adapt to myself to the 9:16 aspect ratio.
