ParticipantI am going to create a series of 10 or 12 posts on the same topic. I created a master post to provide an explanation about the other posts and serve as a master index page.
I am using the show post shortcode on this master post. It will not show the featured images. If I put the shortcode on a page it will show the featured images. (I have Xtreme Plus)For your reference about the Show Post Filter:[show_posts category_name=shamanic-journey-series order=ASC posts_per_page=-1 show=excerpt hide_bottom_info=true hide_top_info=true]May 25, 2015 at 07:22 UTC - Views: 4 #22130scrambler
ModeratorIf you are saying you are adding a post inside a post using the show post shortcode, then for sure you may run into trouble as WordPress probably gets very confused.
But if this is what you are doing, I am not sure I understand why you would need to do that

ParticipantThere are all sorts of reasons to do that. Perhaps this example from a different website would make better sense to you about why people do that:
I am not the only one I’ve seen making a master post on a topic to introduce the topic, and collecting the subtopics posts onto that master post. I do not want a page for various reasons including wanting a sticky post for this topic. Are you telling me the plugin will not do what I want?May 25, 2015 at 14:39 UTC - Views: 4 #22132scrambler
Moderator@weaver would have to confirm the possible issues within wordpress when putting a post inside a post.
The feaured image not showing may be because the wordpress post loop gets confused as you normally have only one featured image per post. Instead of using a featured image, have you tried to simply insert an image in the post that you are adding in the post?
I still don’t understand why you need to use a post for that, and not simply make a shortcode of that piece of content.
“Plus” Has a shortcoder option that lets you define a specific content and use it anywhere you want with a shortcode.

ParticipantI want the new posts to show up on the master post. I was hoping not to have to add them each time I made a new one. I have about seven in the works right now and expect to end with 12 or so.
But I’m also not sure what you are talking about. Do you mean make a shortcode for each of the 12 or so posts and then add them one at a time to the master post?May 25, 2015 at 16:23 UTC - Views: 3 #22134scrambler
ModeratorI guess I am unclear about what you are trying to do.
Is the master post constant then?
If so why does the master post needs to be a post. Why cant the master post simply be a page?
You need to elaborate what the whole thing is about…

Keymaster[show_posts] inside a post can work, but not reliably. It is not a good idea as all sorts of things can go wrong, and featured images might be one of them. It is also easy to end up with a endless “loop” where the posts will be recursively generated until the site crashes.
But another approach to a “master” index post would be using categories or tags creatively.

ParticipantAll the sub posts are in the same category, but I wanted the index post/introduction post to be a sticky post. I want the index to show up when you look at blogs of a certain category or tags. (In other words I want to be able assign it to category and tags.) I put the master post in a main category and these posts in a sub-category and they need an introduction or I will have to repeat the introduction over and over for every post. These are the type of posts that have basic information, almost tutorial like, that my readers will want to read and won’t get old. But I don’t want to have to worry about the posts getting buried because I can keep the main post current. Does that make sense?
These are also best read roughly in the order they were written as they move from general to specialized info so I thought the plug in would easily allow me to change how they are displayed.I suppose I can fake a sticky post with page-links-to or something like that and have the post go to a page… maybe. That seems messy. I think creative categories may be above my skill level. But it sounds like show posts should be avoided?May 25, 2015 at 19:16 UTC - Views: 3 #22137scrambler
ModeratorDid you try to not use a featured image on the master post, and insert an image in the post content instead?

ParticipantThanks. I just tried that. It didn’t work.
I tried selected, hide featured post to see what that would do, then the post did get hung up when I tried to edit again. Not sure if it was directly related to doing that, but I change the settings on the show posts and was able to get back to the post. It appeared I was only getting hung up when I tried to edit that post, so it does seem like I might have gotten into a loop.It does work if I select title and featured image, but not with excerpt. I think perhaps I will just have to let it go without the featured image for now until I can find a different way to do this. (Unless you think of something else.)Thank you for your time.May 25, 2015 at 20:13 UTC - Views: 3 #22139scrambler
ModeratorDid you try to display the master post a full post instead of excerpt?
May 25, 2015 at 22:28 UTC - Views: 3 #22140earthbliss
ParticipantOK I think I understand what is wrong thanks to you. I had hid the image on a single page view, because it looked better in the post as medium size.
When I changed it to “Default Single Page FI” the image showed up on the post list. Show “With Content – bottom” works as well, although it puts the image below the excerpt.Thank you.(Do you have a command to show a FI as medium size on a single post? I can start a different thread if you do.)May 26, 2015 at 06:45 UTC - Views: 5 #22141scrambler
ModeratorIf you want to affect the size of a FI on a single post, you can do it with Custom CSS using the posts ID. One remark, it will only change how the image is displayed, not which image size is loaded, so if your global setting is for a thumbnail size and you use CSS to make it bigger, the image will be fuzzy. If your global setting is large, and you use CSS to reduce it, it will be fine.
Tell us which post you want the CSS for, and precise if you only want to change the size on its single post page, or also in blog page where the post is displayed.
