Unnecessary whitespace and new line characters in text

Hi,

While looking at the translation at WP dot org I stumpled upon a number of strings that contain unnecessary whitespace and new line characters.

Check this link for all relevant strings. You can recognize it by the gray boxes and the new line icons.

When looking at the relevant files (example) I understand that whitespace is sometimes added to make the code base more clear, but for translators it’s more difficult this way.

I know, this is not a critical issue, but is this something that will be fixed in the future?

The existing strings with spaces and newlines will not be “fixed” because there are quite a few existing translations and changing the source string would break those existing translations (at least as far as I understand how the translations work).

True, at best they will get a “fuzzy” status, which requires approval again (after changes in translation are made). But in case of major changes in the original string, whole translation is lost.
