Theme Backup Issue

OK, I somehow broke the css when adding social buttons to the footer area. Removed the code and still broken.  Something else must be going on. Rather than fight it, I want to use the backup.  I sadly haven’t backed it up to the database yet, it is work in progress. 

 Went to upload theme backup WeaverX (client’s copy).  Luckily I had downloaded the theme’s backup settings file just before the changes.  Sadly it won’t upload, blocked or something.  Can I do this manually? Simply switch out a file in the plugin’s file directory? Or other suggestions.

If you used the theme’s save settings to you computer option to download the settings to a .wxb file, there should be no reason that it shouldn’t upload when you select the file and then click upload.

There are no manual options for this – it is meant to work as an uploaded file.

“won’t upload, blocked or something” is not very helpful to figure out what might be going on. Please describe, exactly, including file names, and what exactly you try and what messages you might be getting.

Don’t know why it wouldn’t load.  Fixed css issue.  Very strange.  Added custom html to header area. worked.  Added custom html to footer area.  Worked. Made minor change to footer html area css broke.  Took out footer html, still broke, took out header html still broke. When I took out custom html I copied to notepad.  Added same html back to header area and everything worked.

Backed up theme settings to database.

You may have some other HTML errors in your page in other places.

HTML errors can cause ripple effects, so an error in an other area can cause no trouble in a specific configuration, but then trigger an error when the surroundings change. This is because browsers try to compensate for errors, and the way they do that depend on everything else present in the page.

So I highly suggest to run the whole page through an HTML validator and look for open closed tag errors.

I also highly suggest you get to the bottom of why you cannot save settings and load them back up…

I can download them. I can save in database.  I can’t upload.  I will check

The message you saw:

You may need to check your folder permissions or other server settings.

is very accurate. There is a problem with your WP installation, or host (server) configuration. Technically, the host’s PHP configuration failed to properly upload the file you selected to the host’s temporary file location. I don’t think this particular issue has been reported before, but it definitely is a host configuration issue.

Are you able to upload new files to the Media Library? I uses an alternative method of uploading files, so it might still work, but I’d suspect other plugins that upload files would have similar issues.
