Text colors, width expansion in footer, search bar

1.  How do I change the text color on my primary and secondary widgets in weaver extreme?  I know how to change the title text color, but I can’t find the text color.  Please see my website “for-closuresolutions.com.”

2.  How do I expand the width in the footer widget area…..it’s too narrow?

3.  How do I get a search bar under the main menu area?

1. The options for setting widget text color are under the Sidebars and Layout tab. You can set a text color for individual widgets – which would affect the text color of all widgets, or you can set the text color independently for the Primary and Secondary widget areas.

2. The width of the footer area normally follows the site width. We would need a link to see what “too narrow” really means.

3. Please be more specific about under the main menu – between the menu and the content? You can add a search box to the InfoBar which is under the menu bar. There are other options with Weaver Xtreme Plus and HTML insertions areas and the [search] shortcode.

1) Primary and secondary widget area are Sidebar widget area and the page you link to  http://for-closuresolutions.com/  has no sidebar, so please elaborate.

That being said to change the text color in widgets, you have two solution.

Change all widgets in Main Options > Sidebar & Layout > Individual widgets > Individual widget text color box

To change widgets text color only for a specific widget area like the primary, use   Main Options > Sidebar & Layout > Primary Widget Area > Primary Widget Area Text color box.

2) There is no footer widget area in the page you linked to, and the footer is full width, so I don’t follow that question either

3) To insert a search bar wherever you want, you need the “Plus” Plugin that has a search shortcode.

Question 2 – I understand what you mean, however, I would like the footer area to expand all the way across and not end at the widget area.  Please take a look at my blog “for-closuresolutions.com.  I’m not sure what kind of link you need, could you please explain to me and I would be happy to provide?

Question 3 – Where is the infobar?  how do I find that?  My search box is at the top between the primary menu and the header….but it can’t been unless you click on it?

I think my website has not made available to the public the new changes that I just made to my website today.  Of course, this was after you showed me how to eliminate some of the plugins that was causing serious problems. When I deleted many of the plugins that you suggested, I was able to work with my website.

At first, when I updated my theme to Weaver X, I used the subtheme “plain full width”  and that’s why you’re not seeing primary & secondary widgets as well as a footer because google index (or whatever it is that updates your site) has not made the changes (I guess, you would know more about that than me). 

Scrambler, I sincerely thank you for all your help and you have answered my questions.  I just  have a couple more.  Is a subtheme a child theme.  If not, do you have any instructions for me as to how to install on my website?  I am so tired of having to go back and make all of these changes every time I update my Weaver website (lol).

First, unless you are using a cache plugins, any change you make should be visible right away. if you are using a cache plugin, clear your cache to make sure the latest changes are reflected in the cache.

A subtheme is not  a child theme. A subtheme is simply a preset of options, something to start with. Then you add your own customization on top of it. At the end you can download your options in the Save / restore page to keep a local copy, and if you have plus you can also do that from the Plugin shortcode > Save / restore page.

A child theme is only needed when you need to make some very advanced changes in the php templates of the theme. In most cases all the customization you need with a theme like Xtreme can be done using the Theme numerous options and Custom CSS.

In both cases, when you update the theme to a newer version, all your settings are preserved and you do not loose anything.

So I do not understand what you mean by “I am so tired of having to go back and make all of these changes every time I update my Weaver website” as you should not be loosing anything.

You will have to give us a lot more details about what you are doing, as if you are loosing settings, either something is wrong in your installation, or you are doing something wrong.

Thanks for this information.  Yes, I am using W3 Total Cache plugin.  Do you recommend this or is there another way I can cache pages or is there something else i can do?

Yep, you’re right it’s me, I have been doing this thing all wrong.  I didn’t know I could click on save/restore and that would do the trick.  Thanks for the info.  FYI: Even though I have been using this theme for 4 years and I really like it , I’ve learned a lot, but there’s still lots that I need to learn.  So, again I thank you so very much.

By the way Scrambler, do you recommend any plugins that I should use with this theme?

I have no recommendation for cache plugins, but if you are using one, always make sure to clear its cache after changes are made if changes don’t show up.

You are still not explaining how/when you are loosing settings, as you should NOT be loosing anything when updating the theme.

As far as plugin recommendation, Xtreme needs the Xtreme Theme support, beyond that weaver “Plus” plugin ( which is for purchase) adds a lot of nice features.

Beyond that it all depends on what issue you are trying to solve. You only install plugins if you need a functionality that cannot be done using the theme features.

When I first started creating a website (4 years ago), I was brand new and didn’t know anything.  The Weaver theme was the first one I had ever used.  Little did I know that there was so much to learn and the theme was not as simple as I thought.  So over the past few years and with all the updates that were required, I lost settings that were placed, such as the header, colors, powered by (at the bottom of the page), widgets, menus, etc., etc.

However, I must admit maybe I didn’t know how to update and that may have been the reason why I lost data.  Unfortunately, I didn’t even know how to get help at that time.  I was going to you tube and trying to learn from those videos how to use the Weaver theme.  In spite of all the trials I have gone thru, I have still stuck with the Weaver theme because I don’t want to have to learn how to use a different theme, given what I have learned over the years.  Plus, it really is a very good theme.  I love the various things you can do with it to customize the theme that I have learned.
