    I have a test site and a live site. I am presuming that I only need to purchase one license?

    But if you get the single site license, only the site you register will get automatic updates.

    I would like to activate the cloned site first, until I convert to the live site. Or is that necessary to put the key into the cloned site?

    The Weaver Xtreme Plus will work without activation. You can move a single activation from site to site, but probably won’t need to. At this point, the updates for Weaver Plus usually involve minor bug fixes and tweaks, with an occasional addition of a significant new feature.
