Split sidebars – reverse right and left?

I currently have my primary sidebar showing on the right.  For some pages I’m looking to have split sidebars but I would like to have them split so that the primary still stays on the right and I can create something new as a secondary for the left.  Is it possible?
Currently the split sidebar puts the secondary on the right.

Why dont you use the secondary widget area for your right sidebar. Like that when you actually populate the primary one it will be on the left and the content in the secondary widget area will remain on the right

I did something similar that seems to work… I have a gradient background behind the widgets of the right sidebar.  I wanted to keep that on the right and have another sidebar without the background on the left, but only for certain pages.  This is what I did…it’s probably not the most expedient but seems to work:

That is exactly what I was suggesting 🙂

but I am not sure about what you mention in your last item.

 Are you saying that when you activate the primary with a replacement area for the page that is set for split, it causes the area to show up on other pages (as I don’t see how that could be and should not).

To be honest I’ve changed it so many times I’m not sure now…I’m going to close this now as I have another widget related question.
