ParticipantIs there a way to make a splash page that then takes you to
the index page (home page) and if so is there a way that says in a certain
amount of time it goes there automatically? If not maybe just clicking a go to
button? Thanks for any help John.May 18, 2016 at 23:20 UTC - Views: 2 #28692scrambler
ModeratorJust make your home page the splash page and do not add that page to the menu.
You can design that splash page with a button that goes to the home page. As for making that happen automatically after a while, you would need to use javascript, and that is beyond the scope of this forum. But google it will probably lead you to development forum with the proper method.May 19, 2016 at 17:30 UTC - Views: 2 #28693merlojh

ParticipantYou can use a button widget, or create a button-looking image using any computer drawing program. In fact any sort of image can be a “button,” just make it clickable and link it to the appropriate page.

ModeratorThis an HTML question better researched in an HTML tutorial 🙂
What you want is simply an image with a link. if you have the “plus” plugin, you can create these automatically in Appearance + Xtreme Plus > Link button page.
If not the base HTML for an image link is the code below. You must switch you page content editor to text mode to use HTML
<a href=”LinkURL“> <img src=”ImageURL” /> </a>
You need to replace LinkURL by the URL of the page the button links to, and ImageURL by the full URL of the Image you have loaded in your image library for the button
If you want a basic button without an image read

ParticipantMaybe I’m misunderstanding the original question, but in WordPress every image on every page is clickable and linkable by default. There’s no need to write a single character of code or buy the Pro version of anything.
John, Here’s how to make any jpeg or png image go to any page on your website just by clicking it. The image can be a ‘button’ that you created yourself, a photo, or a logo.

If you need to save five minutes, you can install a plug-in to make buttons for you. Notice the small green buttons scattered around on http://www.placesandpics.com. These are done with a customizable button widget that’s included with the SiteOrigins Widget Bundle. https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/
Please don’t hesitate to ask for more clarification. I may be mis-reading your original post.

ModeratorYou are right, with the added custom URL, there is no longer any need to put in the HTML 🙂
Thanks for reminding us.May 19, 2016 at 20:16 UTC - Views: 5 #28698Bobthearch
Participant“You are right, with the added custom URL, there is no longer any need to put in the HTML

Thanks for reminding us.”I often wish that WordPress would turn this OFF by default. My websites have hundreds of photos and I have to manually reset every single one of them to Link To “None.” 🙁

ModeratorTo control your menu, create them using WordPress Custom Menus found in Appearance > Menus.
there you can add / remove organize pages anyway you want in your menuIf not familiar with WordPress custom Menus, you will find plenty of tutorial on YouTube

Participant“OK thanks but say I have this image on http://www.patientsforchange.org/splash-page/ can I put a but”
It’s only linking to the image in the media folder, as is the WordPress default. You need to edit the photo on the page and you’ll see the screenshot that I posted above. The spot I circled in red is where you enter the address of the page you wish it to link to.
“Oh also the button for the splash page is now up in my menu how do I remove it? Thanks”
There’s a setting for automatically adding pages to the menu. You probably just need to turn that off, then remove the page from the menu list.
FYI, the splash page would normally be the main website address. As you have it now if someone types in your website name ( http://www.patientsforchange.org ) they’ll never see your splash page.
Not many websites nowadays use splash pages. You might consider skipping it altogether.May 19, 2016 at 22:51 UTC - Views: 2 #28703scrambler
ModeratorIf you want a large background image and a small image button on top of it for your splash page, do not insert the background image as an image, but as a background, by adding the rule below in Main Options > Fonts & Custom > Custom CSS rule box.
.page-id-261 #content {background:url(imageURL) center;}
The in your page content, add the small image from the media library to make the link button, select Align:center, and Link to: > custom URL, and put the full URL of your home page in the box below

ModeratorFinally to make your splash page your landing page, go to WordPress Settings > Reading, Set Front Page display to A static page, and select your splash page in the drop down list.
While you are at it, make sure nothing is selected in the Post page drop down list (showing –select–)May 19, 2016 at 23:05 UTC - Views: 3 #28705merlojh
