Sorting Archive Posts in Widgets

I have a few different Posts I make that show up on different Pages using Page With Posts with Category sorting. I am trying to put an Archives Widget into each different page that will only show the Archives for that particular Category. I can sort if I use the Recent Posts function but can’t find how to do it in the Archives Widget.

Am I missing something?

It use to be that putting posts in posts was a problem with WordPress, but I do not know if this is still the case.

Have you tried trying to insert the list of posts in the category inside your post, using a weaver show posts filter and shortcode (you need the weaver show post plugin for that obviously)

I don’t know what you mean or even how to do that.

What I can do is have the Recent Posts widget on the side of my Page with Posts using the selected Category.

What I can’t do is have the Archived Post widget there as well since it won’t let me select the Category so all the posts I’ve ever written with different Categories shows up.

The native “latest posts” widget from WordPress can do that.

Insert the latest post widget, then in the right column of the widget page, you will see all the widget options, and one of them is category, where you can choose the category of post to display in the widget

If you need more options that all the available ones in the “latest Posts” widget, you can look into the weaver show posts plugin.

With that plugin, you can create a filter that will determine which category of post to show and how to show them like a title list.

Then it will create a widget called Weaver show post that you can insert in the sidebar, and in that widget you will just have to select the filter that you created.

To be honest I’m not exactly sure what you seek to achieve, but after Scrambler’s comments I searched online and got this suggestion:

“… you can insert a WordPress widget into a post by using the AMR Shortcode Any Widget plugin, which allows you to turn widgets into shortcodes that can be placed anywhere in your content.”

I guess with that, each widget can be customised for its page category etc. rather than using the sidebar, which would be great for a site user on a phone, as the widget is on the page, not far below it.

FYI, before I moved to Xtreme I used and still use, “List category posts” plugin to insert sorted lists of posts anywhere into posts or pages. Since I have hundreds of lists, it really wasn’t an option to change to the Xtreme version, so I just kept with the old one.

OK, so rereading your posts, do I understand correctly that what you want in the sidebar is a list by month (archive style), but with each month only going to an archive of a specific category for that month.

If so, a search for that specific request returns a number of plugins that are supposed to do that

is there a wordpress widget to display a list of monthly archived post only for a specific category – Google Search

On my Studio Glimpses page, I want to, not only have a Recent Posts and a Tags widget, I want to have an Archives widget that only shows posts from the Category, “Studio Glimpses”. Currently it shows me posts from all the other Categories as well. The Recent Post widget lets me make that sort but, in my experience, the Archives widget doesn’t offer that option.

I have not found the ability to only select the Category of my choosing in the Archives Widget, only in the Recent Posts Widget.

Am I missing something?

I downloaded, installed and populated the widget you suggested and it looked like it worked perfectly. However, there was a JSON error. So on the live site, although it looks correct, the links sends the viewer to the Home page. So it’s not working. I don’t know what a JSON error is or why this is happening do you?

You would need to contact the plugin developer if the plugin creates an error, or check the plugin forum on WordPress.

You can also try a different plugin if you can find more than one
