Sidebar menu

My site is at this temporary location:

I want to customize the menu in the left sidebar, where it says “Calendar, Staff, Events, etc.”

Right now it looks like a bulleted list of links.  I would like to make it look like a menu, more like the horizontal one that says “Home, Infant/Toddler Program, etc.”

Any advice about how to do this would be welcome.

I turned off the theme’s secondary menu, which *did* look like a menu, because it was showing up at the very top of the page, and I wanted it to be shown in the left column.  So right now I am using WordPress’s built-in menu widget to create this menu in the sidebar.  I am not attached to doing it that way — I just want a menu that looks like a menu, in the left sidebar.

Ideally to do that you would need to get the Xtreme “Plus” Plugin. The plugin gives you (among other things) a fully styled Sidebar menu widget.

If not then you would need to style that WordPress custom menu widget manually using CSS rules.
