When I post a link to post in Facebook, Threads, etc., instead of the preview image for the post showing it always displays the site banner. Is there a setting to get places to use the post preview instead of the same site banner all the time? For example, https://lerner.net/a-semi-adventure/

Hello. I did edit a post and look over the featured image’s settings, but didn’t see anything relevant. At least not to me. Is there a particular setting you are thinking of?
In truth I have to say that I’m a bit unfamiliar with the WP & Weaver core use of Featured Images for Social Media as I use the AIOSEO (All in One SEO) plugin to deal with the Previews I need to use.
That said, if you click on the “Screen Options” at top right of your edit page, just under the Admin Bar and select “Weaver Xtreme Options For This Post“, it will open a tab under the edit screen with choices for how the post is previewed.
I believe you will find what you need there.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t see “screen options” at the top right of the edit page under the Admin bar or any mention of Weaver Xtreme there. I don’t see a way to attach a screenshot to show you.

I did find Weaver Xtreme Options for This Post at the bottom of the post though. But aren’t all those options just for how it’s previewed in the blog itself? That is already working.
Are you using a Full Admin account with ALL privileges?
If so, try deactivating ALL plugins and see if that makes it appear, if so reactivate one by one to find the culprit.
Also, redo the last wordpress update, in case something went wrong there

However, if you see the “Weaver Xtreme Options For This Post“ box below the edit panel, then please check in the “Post/blog archive options” tab to see if these work for you.

Since I do see the Weaver Xtreme Options for This Post below the edit panel I’ll wait on trying that suggestions about turning off plugins for the moment.

I’m not sure what to do there though. They all seem to be related to how the blog post looks at my blog site. Which items are relevant to sharing a link somewhere (like on Facebook) and having the featured image show up instead of the site banner?

These setting ought to allow you to control where the Featured Images shows up.

That section doesn’t mention Facebook or previews at other sites at all. Right now it’s set at FI. And in my blog (https://lerner.net) you can see the featured image is properly showing up in the blog previews.
I tried a few of the other options (e.g. header image replacement) and it (1) didn’t seem to affect anything at the blog itself or (2) in Facebook posts.
By the way, I tried the link to the single blog post I mentioned – https://lerner.net/a-semi-adventure/ – and at Facebook it still shows the banner image and in Apple Mail it shows the 2nd image in my post rather than the banner image or the featured image!
After searching around – and also asking ChatGPT – it seems the problem might be due to there being no op:image setting the head section. If that sounds right, is there a place maybe to set that? Or do I need to modify functions.php?
You may want to consider the AIOSEO (All in One SEO) plugin to deal with the Previews.
It has other features which will help with site SEO and others you may not need, so no need to turn them on.
Please be aware also that the Social Media apps keep all data in a cache and do not re-download it if that url is used later. Thus, any changes you make in an existing url to image or title, will not be picked up. The exception is now Facebook, which now has the “Refresh Share Attachment” feature. This, plus the fact that you can only test social media on publicly published posts, makes tweaking previews etc. rather time consuming. Please also be reminded that different social media have different preferred shapes and sizes for image…..
