How to show comments on a page that are from another page – or from a post(s)? I have searched and experimented, not finding ideas (rather not add yet another plugin?). I use show_posts often. But when I show_posts that have comments, those comments are not displayed. Is there a way to control that? For example, a page might show comments from three different discussions (probably each in their own column — which stack on small devices). User could click one set of comments to go to that post (or page?) to participate. Thank you in advance! Started with Weaver, then Weaver Pro, through Weaver Xtreme with the Plus.

It is part of WP design that comments are tied to individual pages or posts. That is hard wired.
I’m not sure if the [show_posts] will ahoq only xommwnra with available options, but it certinly would be possible to hide the page/post content and show only the comments. But the comments won’t autoatically link to other posts or categories/tags.
So, the is nothing in Weaver that I can think of that would support any linking from comments.
But comments can be processed by plugins, so it is possible thtt plugins exist to organize comments.
There are 3rd party comment/discussion services that may have linking features.
And of course bbPress has a lot of discussion features.

ParticipantOkay not so easily possible, thank you for clarifying. Will go with bbPress, good reputation, appreciate the reminder, plugins are such a minefield [edit: pause: bbPress showing terrible reviews: sigh]. Our area is heavily facebook thus had no demand to bother with comments on the community website. Now a revitalization committee is getting traction and wants to allow anon discussion. Create a better structure first, or wait for traffic first? New blood is onboard to run that section so let ’em run with a forum! Infinitely better at corralling those topics than facebook. Many thanks to you guys for all that you do and for sticking with it!

KeymasterIf you want to use bbPress, our plugin
makes it pretty easy to start up with a nice site. Almost everything on this forum is done using Turnkey for bbPress. Don’t even need to use Weaver Theme. BBPress has changed very slowly over the years, and I haven’t been updating that plugin with every new WP version, but it still works great.

ParticipantThank you for letting me know! It simply had not occurred to me to search for what new-to-me plugins you may have put out there, duh! I had to decided to go with bbPress despite some bad remarks because much of that can be newish users. That plugin is trimmed (some say clunky) for which you then pick up the additional features (from them, free) as needed for best efficiency. Intentional design, hopefully works out … other forum plugins show similar comments … just wade into it, eventually force-learn some coding?
But now in the nick of time you alert me to your Turnkey bbPress by WeaverTheme. Total trust in your programming from years of use, so this is the no-brainer way to go. After some months of experience I’ll be sure to post a review.
So much of what I’ve needed over the years has been right here at Weaver, usually already embedded before I even knew I needed it. A very fortunate first-pick of a theme when starting out with WordPress! I will never switch until forced kicking and screaming.
