Thanks again but that is not what I found as I was in the wrong place in the Appearance Menu.

I then discovered the “Custom Menus Content (WP)” below my screen list and that is where I found the cog wheel(settings)

on the title bar giving me the “show advanced menu properties” where I ticked the “Link Target” option.

So I got there in the end, many thanks for your help.

I am not quite following as WordPress custom menus are done in Appearance > menu.

This is where you select menu items and set the options for them, and the page where there is a “screen option” at the top where the available options can be checked

But as long as you got it figured out, all is well 🙂

We use Weaver xtreme version 5 with the Artic White subtheme and the Weaver Xtreme Theme Support V6.2.6 plugin, The Appearance Menus did not have a Screen Options tab so Open link  in a new tab, or any options, were not shown. But, since going to Appearance, Customise, Custom Menus Content(WP) then on the title line, (you are customising – Custom Menu Content) there is the cog wheel which when clicked shows all the options making them selectable. Now after doing that the Appearance, Menus shows those option fields as you describe. The Screen Options tab was there but being at the very top and on the righthand side I never noticed it.

Yes seen that now, sorry and thanks for your replies, Never saw that before so thats why I used the Cusomise route to get it done.
