ParticipantIf I create a new TEST user while logged into the WP dashboard as Admin; I go to a different PC and access my website home page from its URL; select Logon from the Left Sidebar Meta >> Logon menu choice; respond to the Logon dialog box that appears using the credentials of the new TEST user I just created; I get taken from there to the WP Dashboard instead of back to my website’s HomePage. I must have something set wrong in my website parameters, but I can’t figure out what it is. I expected a successful login by a user to just go straight back to the HomePage? Will somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong? I am using Weaver Xtreme Theme with the White subTheme.

KeymasterLogin always goes to the admin page without a plugin.

ParticipantOk! That is good to know. Is there a way that I can make login return to the home page? Is there an easy way to add login functionality to my custom main menu? I would also like to add “Post” to my custom main menu. Since I have made the default role “Contributor”. I want my attorney users to be able to “Post” their technical questions, and get comments from me and other users. I don’t want to make all the posts myself and just let my users comment on my posts as I have seen on every other legal blog that I have looked at thus far. I have no desire to be the emperor of my user community.
Thank you for your help..!!

ParticipantActually it would be better if the login function returned to which ever website web-page the user was on at the time they clicked on the Meta login or custom main menu login function.

ParticipantAs Weaver said, you’ll need a plugin to get this functionality (it is not under the theme’s control).
A Google search for “wordpress plugin redirect after login” gives lots of relevant hits – for example, this plugin.

ParticipantGillian,
Thank you. It must have been Weaver’s mention about the need for a plugin that inspired me to search for a suitable plugin. I found 2: “BAW Login/Logout menu” and “Peter’s Login Redirect”. I was up till 2 AM implementing those that night. So that may explain the slow response. They both worked for me just fine. Now I am trying to figure out the best way to add “Post” to my custom main menu. I noticed in by testing that once a user logs in the black WP tool bar appears at the top of my web-pages. I can see where I can hide or inhibit that on the web-page editor. I don’t know if this is a better choice or not because the black WP tool bar has a sub-menu choice to create a new post. I thought about just including instructions for my users on how to use that. The WP black tool bar also allows my users to edit their profile which is a good thing. It also exposes them to other WP Dashboard choices that I am not so sure that I want them to have. Do you have any suggestions in this regard? Thank you for your help.

KeymasterDon’t count on the WP Black Tool Bar as a LOT of users disable it because it is so annoying.
If you want the logged in user to get back to the Post Editor (I think that is what you mean), then that is not hard.
Weaver Xtreme Theme Support plugin has a shortcode called [show_if], and one of the possibilities is logged in. You could add that to an HTML area on the main menu (which requires Weaver Xtreme Plus), or add it to a text widget in a sidebar for any version of Weaver Xtreme. You could add it to the header html insertion area as well.
You could also add a permanent menu item for “Post”, and have it open an intermediate page that uses the [show_if] shortcode to either display a link to the Post Editor, or to a message that says you must login to create posts.
All sorts of approaches.

ParticipantWeaver,
I have spent some time looking for one of “All sorts of approaches” that works. Thus far I have found none. Actually “All sorts of approaches” doesn’t help me because I don’t have the experience to make an informed choice from “All sorts of approaches” that work from a list of “All sorts of approaches”. I don’t have the list of “All sorts of approaches” to choose from either. All I really need is one and only one way that works. One and only one way that will add a choice to my custom main menu that when selected by a logged in user will open a editor for creating a Post. If the user is not logged in, the user should get a login form. If they decline to login, they are denied the opportunity to “Post”. That is all I really need.
I am looking forward to your response, and thank you in advance for your help.

ParticipantWeaver,
Is Page with Posts Weaver Xtreme’s implementation of Custom Post Types?

KeymasterYou have actually started a THIRD topic here, which makes it hard to follow and respond to any of them. If you have additional questions, please start a new question for them instead of asking new, not related questions in the original thread.
1. Page on the Menu
You did not confirm if I understood your question correctly – are you trying to add a menu item that will allow a logged in user to go to the Pages editor?
That is NOT really a theme related question – but rather a more general WordPress question, which is why I merely suggested a couple of approaches. We are not here to totally hold your hand on non-theme issues, but will try to steer you in the right direction. Bottom line, if this is want you to do, opening the Page editor is simply providing a proper link for the user to click at some useful location – perhaps as a custom menu item with a custom link. If you just include that link on a custom menu item, then non-logged-in users will get a login page instead of the page editor if they click it. That is a really the simplest way to do it – but you have to know how to use the WordPress custom menu editor – that is not a theme issue.
2. Page with Posts
Page with Posts allows you to display any post type with a bunch of filtering options. It is not an implementation of Custom Post Types, although you can display Custom Post Types if you know their slug name. It is most commonly used as a way to manage your post content. At the simplest, one can serve as an alternative to the default WordPress blog page that allows you to use all the Weaver Xtreme per post and per page display options.
