@weaver, I noticed that sometimes when adding a link to a site page on the forum, the first time I post the link appears as a regular link to the correct page.
If I edit the post, the link is replaced by a graphical button that actually links to the home page instead of the specific page.
Sometimes the forum replaces the link right away with a button that only goes to the home page. SOme forum users did complain of that a while back
I will attempt at reproducing that in the posts belowApril 3, 2020 at 19:10 UTC - Views: 40 #64107

I forgot to mention, do not use the link tool in the editor, just copy paste a link as text and let the forum take care of itApril 3, 2020 at 21:39 UTC - Views: 25 #64112April 3, 2020 at 21:41 UTC - Views: 23 #64113
That’s freaking weird. If you create it with visual, it isn’t messed. If you create with the Text view, you get the boxed version. That might be a plugin or something. I’ll look at the post in the database to see what the difference is.April 3, 2020 at 21:52 UTC - Views: 19 #64116
Wow, it seems to be turning a valilla link into a “live” preview.

The fact it creates a live preview is OK, the problem is when the link is no longer the original one.
I think you have the same plugin in the Guide siteApril 3, 2020 at 21:58 UTC - Views: 17 #64118
The title in the box has the original link. The one next to the favicon and site name goes to the home site.
I’ve not added any plugins to do this.April 3, 2020 at 22:16 UTC - Views: 15 #64119
It seems to be some issue with core WP handling of embeds.
You should be able to add a YouTube embed, for example:
but not just regular web pages:

I’m not sure why these don’t always turn into an embed link for any WP site. They seem to be oembed links. WordPress adds oembed links at the top of every WP site, and then by providing a link to a WP site inside a WP site should usually generate one of the fancy links in the examples above. Don’t know why it doesn’t always happen.
