Is there a way to hide all the archived post links and just have a search by date?

I don’t work with blogs much so I am at a loss to even know what to call what I want.  The blog I am working with goes back to 2007, so there are a ton of entries.  It would be nice if I could hide all of the older ones and just have a search by date instead.  Is this possible?

I am not 100% sure I follow.

You have a lot of older posts. Do you want them gone and not show at all, or you want them to show but after the new ones?

I don’t want the older posts to show, but I want to be able to search for them by date.

You can do a number of things in a page with posts to filter out posts.

One is to only show the last xx posts.

Another would be to create a New Categtory like newposts  and give that category to all your new posts (in addition to the other meaningful categories they need to belong to)

This would allow you to only show the new posts on your page with posts, using the category filter box

Would I then be able to search the archive by month?

Yes, the posts will still be there with their original dates, so nothing changes in that regards.

All it lets you do is filter the new posts to only show these on the blog page

OR – if doing by adding a category, I might use old-posts instead of new-posts. Using new-posts means deleting a category to hide them as they become old, and this would be error prone. Using old-posts would mean adding a new category.

BUT – perhaps a better option would be to use Weaver Show Posts to define a filter that included a Date range, and then either [show_posts] or “Use a Filter from Weaver Show Posts” option on a Page with Posts template.

On Show Posts, there is a Date option that includes several ranges from today to the past year. If you select the past year, you’ll see the filter option is filled in as date=-365d – you can easily change that directly in the value filed to be date=-500d or whatever number of days you want. That way, the posts shown will automatically filter out old ones.

I had missed that there was a date range in show posts, great point !

Although it depends if his threshold is a number of days, or all posts before a certain date. If the later, then there is no option to do that.

I used the filter option date – this year – and it worked well.  Thank you.

However, I discovered that what I really wanted to do was use the widgets Search by Month and Search by Category.  I also wanted to remove the bloglist.  Mission accomplished.  The tough part is knowing enough to ask the right question. LOL

New problem – does this require a new post or may I continue with this thread?  I see the option to disable Visual Editor, however, I did not check this.  Yet, the Visual Editor is disabled.  My client will be maintaining the website after I have finished it and she would prefer not to use code.  Is it possible that one of my plugins has disabled the Visual Editor?
