Images not displaying on home page

I thought I had asked this once before, but I can’t find it in “my discussions.” I want an image to display next to the posts on the home page. They do on http://grace.allpurposeguru.com and http://sustainingourworld.com. They do not on http://www.allpurposeguru.com and http://music.allpurposeguru.com. They used to display on both. The images ought to be the ones at the top of each post when the reader clicks to continue reading. Where do I find how to restore them?

Have you checked the settings in Main option > Post Specifics > Featured image > Show featured image for excerpt?

Also, some of these are running outdated version of weaver II pro

Thank you. The Show Featured Image for Excerpts box was unchecked on the two sites where the images displayed properly. Unfortunately, unchecking it on the other two did not result in images displaying properly.  Thanks also for the reminder that I hadn’t finished updating the theme on all four sites. That’s finished now.

If you create a new page using the page with posts template, does the page show the featured image when using display post as full and as excerpt (having checked the display featured image for both in post specifics)

I’m not creating new pages. I’m creating new posts. My posts have an image at or near the top. When I click on “home” in two of the blogs, the same image shows up with the excerpts there, but not in the other two. The images appeared in the blogs where nothing was checked under “featured image.” So I unchecked the box on the other two, thinking the images would show on the home page after the change. I have not defined featured images for posts.

It stands to reason that if all the settings are the same, all the blogs should behave the same. They’re not, and I don’t know where else to look for what might be different. And I have checked using two browsers.

What I asked you to do on the problem site was to create a test page using the page with posts template, so we could see if such a page was behaving normally and showing the images.

Make sure your blog page is not the default wordpress blog page.

In Settings > Reading, Front page should be set to static, and NOTHING should be selected in the post page drop down list (showing –select–)

Your blog page should be created with a regular page using the “page with posts” template

Well I was testing on an old weaver II pro test site, and as far as I can tell, page with posts showing excerpts only show the Actual featured image.

Unless I am missing something (or not remembering), for an excerpt to show the image that is in the content of the post, you would have to have created a manual excerpt in the post editing page.

So on the site where posts excerpts are showing the image from the post content, check in these post editing pages if they have content in the excerpt box.

I really wish I  could afford to hire a webmaster. I have never checked any box in “Weaver II options for this post.” The Reading setting is for the front page to display latest posts, showing at most 10 posts. I tried setting a featured image a couple of years ago, and the images were displaying twice on the front page. I can find “page with posts” template for making a new page, but I have no idea what to create when I get there. Do I have to call it “home”? If I select static page and then visit the site without creating a page, the setting defaults to where it has always been. 

Unless you mean using the “more” tag, I have no idea what you mean by creating a manual excerpt in the post editing page. 

What’s frustrating about this whole thing is that all four used to work the same. Then two of them stopped displaying the images on the front page, and I had not changed any settings or done anything differently than before. My social media sharing buttons are also AWOL, but AddThis does not have responsive customer service, so I haven’t been able to figure that out, either.

So, is Page with Posts supposed to display excerpts the same way Front Page Displays Latest Posts supposed to work? How do I use that template?

1- “The Reading setting is for the front page to display latest posts,” this is not good as this means your blog page is a default WordPress blog page, and as a result, none of the weaver options work on it.

So first, you need to set front page to Static, and make sure that NOTHING is selected in the post page drop down list (showing –select–)

Then to create a home page that has your posts, Create a New page, name it Home, in the page attribute select the page with posts template, and publish.

If you are using the <more> tag to show excerpts in that blog page, then in the weaver II Option for this page, in Display Post as: drop down list, select full posts.

If you have created your menu using WordPress Custom menus in Appearance > Menus (as you should), you can add that page to the menu in first position
