Break very long posts into smaller posts

Hi,

I’ve got a very long blogpost and I’ve been told that’s bad for my Core Web Vitals. So I inserted <!–nextpage–> to break it into smaller parts with pagination at the bottom of the blogpost. The problem is that the pages where people can click to go to the next part of the blogpost is beneath the recommended blogposts and social buttons. I was worried visitors wouldn’t find the pagenumbers so I removed everything.

Now I’m wondering:

Is there a feature in the Weaver Xtreme guide to cut a long blogpost into smaller parts?

And if not, is there a way to control where the links for the pages of a ‘chopped up’ blogpost are placed?

I don’t completely understand your question. I would generally expect the author to want to control pagination carefully, and therefor use either the Page Break block for the block editor, or inserting <!––nextpage––> using the Text tab in the classic editor.

Controlling page breaks is not a feature that would be appropriate or allowed for themes.

There is also a plugin that says it can auto generate page breaks, but I haven’t tried it at all. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-paginate/

But when I followed your link, I really got lost. I really couldn’t read much of the page content. I assume that most of the text about gray hair was part of your original page, but I saw Dutch. Using my browser translate command (which should have been done automatically, but didn’t and required manual specification), it looked like what bits of content I could actually see was about grey hair.

So, you would have to split that up manually, or perhaps with the plugin.

But the real issue is that I couldn’t really read much of the content, nor would I want to even try. The entire page was totally obliterated by way too many ads, each one looked like it placed randomly. The ads would come and go, and it really was not possible to see the actual content – at least without extreme frustration on my part. I would also suspect the ads were breaking my browser’s ability to auto translate pages.

ADDED NOTE: The site is better on a phone, but still overwrites content. On the browser, a significant portion of the left side of the screen is ads overlaying the content.

I can understand that you are trying to generate some income from our site, but the content is really being overwhelmed by the ads. Splitting your content over pages won’t fix that. And if you Next Page links were not showing up, I would guess it was likely due to the random placement of ads.

I would seriously reconsider your advertising plan, and try to be more strategic as to ad placement. Overwriting your own content is not a good idea.

Further to Weaver’s comments on AD, I did a site check on Pingdom Tools : https://tools.pingdom.com/#64b5722c9e800000

I humbly suggest that there are more effective ways to improve the site readability than worrying about page length at the moment, as the Pingdom results show.

Since the site has been running for a while now, you should have obtained user statistics (analytics) on the how many people access your site on a Desktop, or Tablet or Phone.

If like me, you are getting >85% of site visitors on Phones, then perhaps that must be the main focus of optimization.  As Weaver wrote, the phone version looks good!
