Add Media Button (Insert into page, Insert into Post) not working

I’ve been adding a lot of pictures to pages and posts the last few days and everything was working perfectly.
Starting last evening, I can’t add pictures from my library.  Normally when I click on am image the blue button (Insert Into Page/Insert into Post) becomes brighter.  It’s not doing that any more.
I am running Windows 10.  Last night Windows did an automatic update.  Since that point I have had this problem.  Does anyone know what might be going on?

One more thing I regarding my question above — when I am doing “Add Media” in a page or post, if I click on an image in the library, the blue button does not light up, as stated earlier.  BUT, if I then hold down the CTRL key and click on a second image (two images now selected), the blue button lights up, I can click it, and both images are added.

This sounds like a WP issue.

I would ask / look on the WP forum to see if other people are reporting the issue.

I would also do the regular tests:

Deactivate ALL plugins to see if that changes anything.

Redo the last WordPress Update from Appearance > Update

Thank you. I had already tried the things you suggested — no success.

When I rebooted my laptop I got a fatal error message from Windows 10 (“Start Menu and Cortana are not working”).  I shut down and left it alone for an hour because I noticed in Task Manager that something appeared to be downloading to my hard drive.  I assumed Windows was downloading a fix to their update from a day ago.  When I rebooted an hour later, the fatal error message was gone (although the boot process took longer than usual — installing the Windows fix?). 

My site seemed to be OK.  I tried the Add Media button and it worked normally.  I re-activated my plug-ins, and everything is OK.

Windows 10 is nice, but still somewhat fragile, apparently.  Wanted to post my experience in case someone else runs into this problem.
