WordPress has also indicated that SSL will be a part of the future of all WP sites.
But you can get quite adequate SSL service from CloudFlare for free and a bit of set up time. Once the CloudFlare account is set up, you can pretty much get any of your sites showing https:// in about 5 minutes each. No real need for complicated and expensive SSL certificates.
